NATIONAL INVESTMENT CORPORATION OF NATIONAL BANK OF KAZAKHSTAN ATTENDED 10TH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF SOVEREIGN WEALTH FUNDS (IFSWF) IN MARRAKECH (MOROCCO) ON SEPTEMBER 18-21, 2018

National Investment Corporation of National Bank of Kazakhstan (NIC) attended the 10th Annual Meeting of the IFSWF in Marrakesh.
The International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF) is a voluntary organization of global sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) established in 2009 to enhance collaboration and dialogue between members, to promote a deeper understanding of SWF activity and to raise the standard for SWF best practice and governance. The Forum includes members from 32 countries from across the globe, including Singapore, Korea, UAE, New Zealand and China. Together these SWFs represent around $5.5 trillion in assets under management. NIC has become an IFSWF member in 2014.The annual meeting brings together IFSWF members and financial leaders to discuss the key global issues affecting the investment community and serves as a great platform for improving collaboration and knowledge sharing. The 2018 Annual Meeting, which was held on September 18-21, 2018 in Marrakesh (Morocco), was hosted by Ithmar Capital (Sovereign wealth fund of Morocco). The theme of 2018 Annual meeting has been devoted to Governance, Investment and Innovation in a Changing World.
 
NIC delegates have participated in several workshops, dedicated to long term investments, urban development, the role of sovereign wealth fund in domestic growth and challenges of globalization. These workshops were followed by number of sessions and focused more on panel discussion, dedicated to 10 years of the Santiago Principles. The panelists, who were all deeply involved in the writing of the Santiago Principles, discussed why they were written and what they were designed to achieve. They also looked at how the perception of SWFs has changed in the intervening decade and what they needed to continue to do.
As a part of the conference, NIC representatives had bilateral meetings with peer SWFs, discussed cooperation opportunities and shared opinions on investments, governance and strategic allocation.
NIC has been actively engaged into IFSWF Annual Meeting activities. Mr. Akylzhan Baimagambetov, CEO of NIC, is a Member of Advisory Committee of the IFSWF. The Advisory Committee provides transparent, non-binding advice and support to the Secretariat and Board on all matters relating to IFSWF events, including the annual meetings, strategic, research and academic relationships, peer assistance, training and workshops, as well as promoting the IFSWF and the Santiago Principles.
